It is the third largest building in Teotihuacan, an ancient Mesoamerican city whose ruins are located in Mexico. The building consists of seven bodies of talud-tablero and part of its western façade was decorated at the beginning of the 3rd century with sculptures representing the Feathered Serpent, one of the oldest and most important deities of the Mesoamerican peoples, later called Quetzalcoatl.

The Pyramid of the Sun was primarily used for ceremonial and religious purposes. It is believed that it was used to carry out rituals related to the sun, rain and fertility, as these elements were fundamental to the worldview of the Teotihuacan culture. In addition, its location in the center of the city and its imposing presence made it a focal point for the community, where important ceremonies and events were held.
