Stop At: Zona Arqueologica de Bonampak, Carretera Zona Arqueologica Bonampak, Bonampak Mexico

First, you’ll be taken to Bonampak’s archaeological site, where you’ll be able to see the best murals in the Mayan World.

Bonampak’s pre-hispanic murals are the most meaningful and best-preserved works that belong to the Mayan culture. These paintings lie on the walls of the Murals’ Temple. (Bonampak means “dyed walls” in Mayan).

This archaeological zone is located in the middle of the Lacandon Jungle, in Chiapas.

The quality and preservation of the murals by the time they were found allowed to have done complete studies and interpretations on the paintings, through which were made lots of cultural and historical findings of life on those times.

Besides, they served as a reference on how the paintings on the other Maya sites could have been.

Next, you’ll be taken to the Corozal Border, where you’ll sail about an hour through the Usumacinta River, and you’ll visit the archaeological site of Yaxchilan.

In the Late Classical Period, Yaxchilan was one of the most powerful Mayan States across the Usumacinta River. It reigned over the smaller sites, such as Bonampak, and had a long rivalry with Piedras Negras, and at least also with Tikal and Palenque, against whom Yaxchilan faced a war on the 654.
