BONAMPAK AND YAXCHILAN MAYAN RUINS – Private Tour from Palenque

Palenque Trip Overview

The Mayan ruins at Bonampak are a beautiful site with a very unique and interesting feel, not fully excavated, so much still covered by rainforest.
One of the most amazing finds at Bonampak are the three rooms of murals, depicting important ceremonial and political events, which are some of the best preserved examples of the Maya painted art. These exquisite murals changed the long held notion that the Maya only sacrificed warriors in the ball games and that they were for the most part a peaceful people. The murals tell a much bloodier story.

The Yaxchilán archaeological site can be reached only by an hour long incredible boat ride down the mighty Usumacinta river through one of the last great North American rainforests. Riding in a long boat, you’ll be exactly between the shores of Guatemala and Mexico, and If you keep on the lookout you will see many of the rainforest wild inhabitants, like monkeys, toucans and eagles, so as crocodiles in the river water.
