Itinerary
In this tour for groups of 8 or more, we visit traditional mezcal palenques, both ancestral clay pot production, and distilleries which produce their mezcal in artisanal copper stills, or alembics. We do our best to illustrate all stages of production, as they are occurring, with nothing being pre-planned for tourists. Our goal is to provide the most real, and un-touristy full day experience as possible; in most cases we have an opportunity to enter into the modest home of a family of palenqueros, affording our clients to truly learn about the culture of the makers of this fine agave spirit. Sample to your heart’s content, photograph as you wish, and of course ask questions. Throughout the day you will have an opportunity to sample approximately 30 mezcals, with opportunities to buy (only if you are so inclined, with no pressure whatsoever) at a fraction of retail. We provide purified water, and salty (and sweet) snacks throughout the day, since lunch is typically rather late in the afternoon. The day concludes with a five course meal pairing Mexican craft beer with traditional Oaxacan cuisine, in a lush rural setting. And of course, more mezcal for the asking.
