Monte Alban is a ruins of Zapoteca culture built on a hill about 400m high in the Oaxaca basin at an altitude of 1500m.
It is said that the Zapotec people who once lived in this region started construction around 500 BC and flourished until around 800 AD. After that, Zapotec declined, but the Mixtecos who took control of the region took over and lived in their place.
The Monte Alban archaeological site has many attractions, such as a pyramid-shaped temple, an observatory, and a stone plate relief depicting a human figure called Danzante (dancing person).
