What to Expect When Visiting Oaxaca, Oaxaca, Mexico

Itinerary

Day 1: Archaeological Site of Monte Alban and Artisan Communities (Alebrijes and Black Pottery)

Stop At: Zona Arqueologica de Monte Alban, Oaxaca Mexico
The main Archaeological Site of Oaxaca, Monte Alban, considered Cultural Heritage by the UNESCO, this zone is conformed by a great rectangular square surrounded by palaces, temples, shrines, ball games and tombs.

Please be aware that during pandemic period we might require to wait our turn to entrance the Archaeological site. Waiting time might be as long as 1.5 hours without availability of restroom nor restaurant.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: San Antonio Arrazola, Oaxaca Mexico
The next stop will be Arrazola, place where the creativity of its artisans is reflected on small pieces of copal wood, creating a fantastic zoology called Alebrijes.
Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Convento de Cuilapam, Cuilapam de Guerrero, Oaxaca Mexico
Continue your trip to Cuilapam de Guerrero, where you will admire a majestic Dominican convent set of the XVI Century where the main attractions are the Open Chapel, the unconcluded Basilical Church and the imposing Ex-Convent of Cuilapam.

Please be aware that during this pandemic period, the Ex-convent might be closed to tourism entrance, in that case, we can admire this impressive building from outside and have time for pictures.

Stop At: Dona Rosa Studio, Calle Benito Juarez No 24 San Bartolo Coyotepec, Oaxaca Mexico
The last stop of this excursion will be San Bartolo de Coyotepec, where you will fall in love with the pottery pieces of black mud elaborated by the local artisans, creating pieces of extraordinary beauty with unique techniques. At Doña Rosa Studio you will have a demonstration how the Black Pottery is made.

Day 2: Archaeological Site of Mitla, Tlacolula Church and Mezcal Factory

Stop At: Tule Tree, Calle dos de Abril 2, Santa Maria del Tule 68297 Mexico
The community of Santa Maria el Tule, recognized by hosting “El Arbol del Tule” (Tule Tree) one of the most extraordinary natural beauties of Oaxaca, a giant Sabine of approximately 2000 years old.

Please be aware that during pandemic period, Tule Tree might not be fully available to get closer; in that case, we can admire this amazing tree from the distance 50 to 100 meters away.

Stop At: Teotitlan Del Valle, De Juárez Km 2, Centro, 70420 Teotitlán del Valle, Oax., Mexico
You will continue your trip towards Teotitlan del Valle, a beautiful artisan town developer of wool rugs, created on homemade looms, using for its coloration natural dyes.
Duration: 50 minutes

Stop At: Camino Nacional, Los Presidentes, Zona Arqueologica de Mitla, San Pablo Villa de Mitla 70430 Mexico
Later you will visit the Sacred City of Mitla, an important ceremony center where the ecclesiastic power of the Zapotec Culture settled, you could admire the harmony between its buildings and the proportion of its backyards highlighted by the extraordinary ornaments represented by frets captured on walls, which make this place unique in Mesoamerica.

Please be aware that during pandemic period we might require to wait our turn to entrance the Archaeological site. Waiting time might be as long as 1.5 hours without availability of restroom nor restaurant.

Stop At: Capilla Del Senor De Tlacolula, Primera Secc, Tlacolula 70400 Mexico
Chapel del Sr. De Tlacolula, a 16th century church that stands out for its splendid frescoes, altar and copula beautifully decorated with hundreds of reliefs finished with GOLD leaves, including more than 50 works of sacred art. Definitely a work of art.
Please be aware that during pandemic period, Hierve El Agua might be close. If that is the case we will replace this visit by Tlacolula Church, which is a beautiful Ex-convent from S XVII

Stop At: RANCHO ZAPATA, Carretera International Oaxaca – Istmo Km. 42,, 70440 San Pablo Villa de Mitla, Oaxaca, Oax., Mexico
You will visit a Mezcal Factory where you will test the different Mezcal types are made in Oaxaca. You will enjoy Gusanito (mezcal with Agave bugs) or Reposado (aged mezcal).

After this, you will return to Oaxaca City.
