Stop At: Zona Arquelogica Edzna, Valle de Edzna, Carretera 180 Entronque Con la 188 Se Localiza a 55 KM de la Ciudad de Campeche, Campeche Mexico

Itzá is the name of a lineage of Chontal origin that settled on the site. By extension, the inhabitants of other settlements referred to the inhabitants of this ancient Mayan city as “Itzáes”; from here comes its name: Ytzná / Edzná: “House of the Itzáes”
It is located 55 km southeast of the city of Campeche. It can be reached by Federal Highways 180 and 261; from Champotón via Haltunchén and Hool, and continue towards the east; or from Campeche through Chiná, Pocyaxum, Nohacal and Tixmucuy. If you travel from the south of Yucatan, you will have to deviate in the town of Cayal. The visitor can arrive at the site by means of public transport from Campeche, however, they must walk about 300 meters to the entrance of the site.

The community of Bécal is located in Calkiní, just two and a half hours from the city of Campeche, in this town the famous hats of Jipi Japa are made, and it is considered the capital of this.

In Bécal are the original caves where groups of artisans make hippie palm hats. The hat monument is also in the center of the town.

Campeche is a port city of Mexico, located on the Gulf of Mexico. It is known for its preserved baroque colonial buildings, military architecture, and walled historic district. In response to pirate attacks, the city was fortified in the 17th century and 2 forts on hills are museums today.
Campeche’s privileged position on the Gulf of Mexico made the city the main port of the Yucatan Peninsula during colonial times. The gold, silver and precious stones that were transported from America to the old world aroused the ambition of many pirates who did not hesitate to attack Spanish ships and try to loot many of the newly founded cities.

The construction of the wall occurred as a consequence of the great economic and commercial boom that arose at that time. The wall had 8 bastions and fourth doors to the outside, and was reinforced by the fort of San Miguel with its two batteries, San Luis and San Fernando (now disappeared); and the fort of San José el Alto with its San Lucas and San Matías batteries

Campeche Cathedral, dedicated to Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, is located within the fortified city of Campeche, declared a World Heritage Site. It is the main church of the Diocese of the same name, seat of the bishopric. It is located in front of the Plaza de la Independencia in the city. The rank of cathedral was granted to him in 1895 by Pope Leo XIII.

It is a building in the Baroque style and with neoclassical features, famous for keeping inside figurines of sacred art, standing out a monument called “The Holy Burial” that represents a coffin with the figure of Christ and that during Good Friday is carried by the main streets of the city.
