Stop At: Cenote Xcanahaltun, Temozon Mexico

If you’ve been researching some cenotes to visit in Tulum, Mexico, chances are that you’ve been told to visit the very popular Cenote Dos Ojos and the Gran Cenote. While stunningly beautiful, these famous cenotes can tend to be crowded and full of other visitors. If you want to skip the crowds yet still have the experience of visiting a cenote, we’ve put together this full day adventure for you!

We’ll start our day with an early pick up from your accommodations in Cancun and Playa del Carmen. From there, we’ll visit the quaint town of Yalcoba where we’ll snap a few photos before heading to our first cenote, Cenote Xcanahaltun.

This natural swimming hole with its crystalline stalagmites and stalactites makes for a scenic view, along with the cenote’s gleaming turquoise waters. We’ll have some free time to swim, snorkel, and paddle around in the cool waters before we head to our next destination.

Stop At: Cenote SAC-AUA, Valladolid Mexico

Cenote Sac Aua is notable for being one of the only cenotes with an island in the middle. This was said to have been caused thousands of years ago when the roof of the cenote collapsed and formed the island. We’ll get to swim around and marvel at the beauty of nature before visiting our last cenote of the day.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Zazil Tunich, km. 6 carretera Yalcoba-Xtut, Valladolid 97794 Mexico

“I have gone to various cenotes in my 3 years in Valladolid, and I can say without a doubt that this is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ONE!!! It really is amazing, not very common… so you have it basically to yourself.” – Monse, Mexico

Cenote Zazil Tunich is one of the largest cave cenotes, said to house stone formations more than 500 thousand years old. We’ll get a tour of the ‘Mayan Underworld’ and learn about Mayan mythology, the legend of Xibalba, and more. After our cave tour, we’ll feast on a local Yucatecan lunch before making our way back to Cancun and Playa del Carmen.

“The tour provided the most historical and spiritual context I’ve encountered thus far. The cenote was large, with many unique formations and plenty of room to swim… I would recommend Zazil Tunich to anyone traveling in the area!” – Myka
