This self-guided package Includes a return ferry to Inishboffin Island from Cleggan.
Walk the short distance from the ferry to the hotel, and enjoy some delicious homemade soup and sandwiches while watching a short video about the island explaining the fascinating heritage, history and geology of the island in brief. Then go for an invigorating self-guided walk, with maps provided around the scenic Westquarter Loop. The island is a great place for bird watching and the corncrake can be heard here every year.
After your walk, return to the hotel for some freshly brewed tea/coffee and homemade scones before either boarding the ferry back to the mainland or staying on the island

Inishbofin (Island of the White Cow) lies seven miles off Galway’s coast. This magical island is now a haven for tourism, farming and fishing. The island is 5.7km by 4km , which means that bikes are the ideal method of transport. On your arrival at the pier, choose your bike to hire and get ready to explore. (There is a daily ferry service all year round from the pier in Cleggan to Inishbofin.)
Inishbofin has various cycling routes offering spectacular views of the island’s wild Atlantic scenery. There are several safe award-winning sandy beaches strewn with shells and with crystal clear water which make swimming, snorkelling and diving a joy. Inishbofin is a special area of conservation and a special area of protection. The island is a breeding area for many species of birds. The rarest or most threatened species breeding on the island at present are the Corncrake. It is estimated that Inishbofin was inhabited as far back as 8000-4000 B.C

As you sail around the tower and signal light into the harbour you will notice Cromwell’s 16th century barracks – used as a prison for catholic priests from all over the country after the English Statute of 1585 declared them guilty of high treason.

Perhaps even a glimpse of the mighty basking shark and the 500lb sunfish! Why not try a bit of fishing en-route as you travel to the small, beautiful and scenic island of Inishturk, which rises boldly from the wild North Atlantic in wall-like cliffs to the northwest and steep hills to the north. Here stand the ruins of the old signal tower, 722 feet above sea level. Those who wish can join the knowledgeable local guide for a 3-hour walk to the cliffs to do some amazing island bird watching.
